Race Information.


International and Rest of Africa residents

Any IAAF accredited road race of 42.2 kilometres or longer (refer to qualifying table) may be used as a Comrades qualifying event.

Comrades qualifier

Kilimanjaro Marathon 2020 may be used as a qualifier for Comrades Marathon (SA).

Note per Comrades that qualifying races must be run between 24 August 2019 and 4 May 2020 only and must be finished within a time of 04h50 for a 42km event.


OPEN – Full Marathon 21 yrs and older, male and female

OPEN – Half Marathon 18 yrs and older male and female

CORPORATE SPONSORS’ TEAMS – will be included in general results as well as on a separate result sheet.

FUN RUN –  All welcome.  No official results will be produced, ages 10 years and upwards. Younger participants must be accompanied by an adult.

Whilst age categories may be noted on the results there may not necessarily be any recognition or prizes on race day for categories indicated above.

  • Tanzania CITIZENS ONLY may pay via Tigo Pesa. You will need to provide proof at race collection.

  • Even if you’re not a Tigo subscriber, you can get your friend who is a Tigo Pesa subscriber to pay for you and you pay them cash back by dialling: *149*20# and following the instructions.

Arusha – Full / Half / Fun Run

  • Tuesday, 25 and Wednesday, 26 February 2020
  • 2pm – 8pm (14h00 – 20h00)
  • Venue:  Kibo Palace Hotel

Moshi – Full / Half / Fun Run

  • Thursday, 27   February 12 noon – 5pm (12h00- 17h00) – prepaid and cash entries – all races
  • Friday, 28 February 10am – 8pm (10h00 – 20h00) – prepaid and cash entries – all races
  • Saturday, 29  February 9am – 5pm (09h00 – 17h00)  Only for pre-paid / pre-registered entries (42k & 21k)

Your documents, race bib, and information will be delivered to your hotel in Moshi, by Thursday 27 February.


There is a Wild Frontiers’ Hospitality tent at the  Finish line in the Stadium.  Bookings are essential.  Included will be all food, drinks, shade and masseurs, and spacious seating.   If you would like to book your spot, please email : reservations@wildfrontiers.com for more details.  Pre booking/payment is essential.


Time keeping is managed by Top Events and Finish Time using disposable electronic chips, which are attached to your race number. Do not swap race numbers with other competitors, your result will be incorrect.

Results will be on the website live-time.

  • There will be a disposable timing chip on the back of your race number.
  • These chips will be covered with foam strips to prevent water and body fluids from damaging the chip.
  • Do not remove these strips.
  • The race number must be placed on the front of your vest.
  • Please do not fold or crumple the race number.

There will be a roaming ambulance – if you are having difficulty STOP AND LET A FELLOW RUNNER ADVISE AN ORGANIZER WHERE YOU ARE, AND THEY WILL LET US KNOW, and you will be collected off the route. There also is a sweep-vehicle at the end.

You also have telephone numbers printed on your race numbers that you can phone in case of an Emergency – KK Security will respond accordingly to your call.




This race will be televised on SuperSport and shown in April.  The film crew will be on bikes – so smile, and wave!!


This year we have a company providing photographs of runners  on the route which will be uploaded to Jetline Action Photo website for free access.  You will be able to search for your images by using your race number on the following site: jetlineactionphoto.com. All images will be uploaded within 48 hours of the event. If you supplied an e-mail address when registering, you will receive a notification on your various pictures, if not, then please keep an eye on the official Kilimanjaro Marathon Facebook page AS WELL AS THE Jetline Action Photo Facebook page and website for updates.


Apart from local print and TV, this race will be covered extensively on Super Sport (SA & the rest of Africa). The whole event is being filmed by a contracted company for inclusion in TV channels after the event. There will also be a huge amount of local media and press covering the event in Tanzania, keep your eyes open for updates/press.

There will be a number of stands and people selling food and drinks at the stadium, plus entertainment.


NO VEHICLES, other than official vehicles, will be allowed into the stadium.  There is parking outside on Sokoine Road / Mweka Road opposite the TOP entrance of MuCO.  You will NOT BE ALLOWED to bring your car into the stadium, or into the area surrounding it – so please don’t try!  Similarly access at certain entrances will be restricted to athletes only.


While every effort is made to keep to all published information, we reserve the right to make changes. In some cases, weather or local conditions can necessitate an alteration to the event and this does not constitute any reason for refund. No refund for unused services will be considered. Kilimanjaro Marathon Company reserve the right to correct printing errors or omissions at any time, unaffected portions will continue to remain valid.


No mobile seconding of any description will be allowed on the route. Runners are allowed seconding within a distance of 100 meters either side of the official refreshment stations.

Aid stations will be withdrawing from the route after a relative time calculated on the cut-off.

The race is being run under the auspices of the Tanzanian Amateur Athletics Association TAAA and the IAAF rules will govern this event.


There will be a tog bag tent near the start line. Do not leave anything valuable in your tog bag please.


There will be music at the finish, and sometimes live entertainment will be provided. There are areas selling food and drinks, and limited shaded space.

Wild Frontiers’ have a private hospitality tent with food/drinks/massage included, but you must pre-book and pay by Thursday 27 February, for catering purposes.


The full amount will be forfeited for the race entry and/or hospitality tent.


Kilimanjaro Marathon Company is responsible for arranging and providing the services during the marathon.


Kilimanjaro Marathon Company and the customer expressly agree that the laws of Tanzania shall govern this agreement and any claim made.


By entering the Kilimanjaro Marathon Event, whether via the entry portal on the website, via Tigo Pesa, via manual entry form or via Corporate entry form, it is understood that:

Entrants and participants (“Participants”) in the Kilimanjaro Premium Lager Marathon (“the event”), including the Tigo Half Marathon, the Grand Malt Fun Run, acknowledge that although all precautions have been taken by the organizing body (Kilimanjaro Marathon Company) to ensure the safety of all participants, there may be dangers inherent in participation in the Event and activities related thereto.  Participants voluntarily assume the risks of attendance at, and participation in, the Event and hereby waive all claims of whatsoever nature and howsoever arising in relation to the Event or otherwise against any parties, including but not limited to the organizing body, the sponsors, the advertisers, any local authority and/or the direct employees, suppliers and assistants of these parties including any individual, official, marshal or agent (“the Parties”).

Participants hereby irrevocably indemnify and hold harmless the Parties against any liability and claims of any nature whatsoever and howsoever arising (whether directly or indirectly caused and whether arising from negligence albeit gross, or from the participation or involvement in or passage to, or from, the Event\s. Force Majeure, Act of God, or otherwise) including but not limited to liability for delay, cancellation, inconvenience, accident, death, injury, illness to their person, or loss or damage to property or costs and expenses sustained, incurred or put to by Participants and/or by any minor children under the care of control of Participants.  Participants hereby confirm that to the best of their knowledge, that they are medically fit and healthy.

Parents or guardians authorizing a minor’s participation in the Event, which shall prima facie be evidenced by their signature on this entry form, or via electronic entry system as set out above, hereby consent to such minor being bound to a foregoing and further indemnify the Partiers to the extent, if any, to which such minor is not capable of waiving his/her rights as stipulated above.  I confirm that I am competent and/or authorized to sign this registration form and agree to the terms and conditions hereto. I further give permission for the free use of my name, voice or picture (still or moving) to be used in any broadcast, telecast, advertising, promotion or any other form of advertising of this and future events. I further agree to allow the organisers and sponsors to use my details for future race specific correspondence by email, SMS or phone call.
