Kilimanjaro Marathon hands over 11m/- for treatment of children with cancer

We are thrilled to announce that the 2023 edition of the Kilimanjaro Marathon has donated Tsh 11.3 million ($4,898) towards the Tumaini La Maisha (TLM), a charity organization that caters for treatment of children with cancer at the KCMC Hospital in Moshi.

We would like to thank every participant for contributing towards this cause as part of the entry fees paid went towards this charitable initiative.

Thanks too to Kibo Palace Hotel, Homes and Apartments based in Arusha and Moshi for partnering with TLM. Guests who stayed at their hotels during the marathon contributed towards the charity through a fund raising dubbed First Dollar-a-Bed-Night campaign.

A special mention goes to Influencer Bongozozo, who took a personal interest in this official charity, and challenged the public at large to dig deep into their pockets. He even challenged well known Boxer Karim Mandonga to a ‘Loser pays Tsh100k to the charity’ in the Kili International Half Marathon. Through his involvement – an additional Tsh2.5m was raised.Thank you Bongozozo!

TLM Chief Executive Officer, Dr Trish Scanian, said the institution was very grateful for the support received from the event, which is rated among the top marathons in Africa as it brings together over 11,500 runners from more than 55 countries worldwide.

“It is indeed wonderful that an event like the Kili Marathon can help grow support for childhood cancer services across the nation by helping TLM provide assistance, treatment and care for children with cancer in hospitals all over Tanzania,” she said.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in making this year’s event such a success!
