42.2 km Kilimanjaro Marathon Route       Download map The route starts and finishes at the Stadium at the Cooperative College, Moshi. Start time 06:30 - 02 March 2008. Leaving the college gates, the race proceeds along the left hand side of the main road to Dar es Salaam. There is a turnaround at approximately the 8 km mark, and then back towards Moshi on the opposite side of the road. We then break left, pass the old railway station and cut through central Moshi, past the market and up past the Police barracks, before crossing the main Arusha - Dar es Salaam road and back past the stadium. This is the first 20 odd km, which is mainly flat, with a few hills. From here it is a long uphill pull for 10 kms on the road to Mweka College - rural trading stores, bars etc mark the first section, before we head out into coffee plantations - with great views of Kilimanjaro (if clear). You gain about 300m in altitude here - from 800 to 1100m amsl. Turning at about 30 km point, it is now a fast downhill back to the stadium and the finish - dropping the 300m gained. Waterpoints are plentiful, and sponging stations will be positioned between them. Points will have water and Coca Cola, and will be in contact with Race Organisers. Each race sponsor will have an additional waterpoint at the end of their finish tunnel. Ambulances will be placed centrally, and Police and marshals will fully control the route. Cut-off time for both races is 12:30 in the afternoon. A film crew will film the race which will be shown on M-Net/DSTV.
